Free iPhone Apps for Designers
Ottr recently posted a link to “20 iPhone Apps every designer should know” which got me looking at the ones I’ve found useful to keep around.
These are all free; I haven’t bothered with paid apps yet because (1) theres too much junk out there and (2) it’s silly to pay for a color palette app when you’re already working on a computer.
What The Font
Lets you know what font a piece of text is set in. I’ve used this out and about with success. Web version of this tool at My Fonts.
Mill Colour
Photo grading. A joy to play with; you can get nice looking results quickly. Cool presets don’t hurt. Fuck yeah cross processing!
Photoshop.com Mobile
PhotoShop without dodging or burning tools. I’m sure some appreciate the irony.
Sketchbook Mobile X
There might be better drawing/sketching apps out there, but hey it’s from Autodesk and has four stars.
Nikon Learn & Explore
Photography reference.
Gorillacam
Robust camera app. Great features: shake detection, leveler, time delay…though I don’t use it. Why? Well it doesn’t save GPS coordinates to photos (I don’t think any 3rd party camera apps do). Can’t give up opening iPhoto and looking at the map with pins marking places I’ve traveled. Nonetheless, I appreciate it’s value—apps like this aren’t usually aren’t free.
PanoLab
Used this once. I think it’s the best free panorama app.
TED
Thought I’d mention it even though you can just access the podcasts through the iTunes store app.
Tumblr Gear
Inspiration on demand. No posting, but there is liking and reblogging. Prefer this to the official Tumblr app—it’s fast and images are large + easy to see.
Anything I’m missing?
